contacts manager not presenting numbers to Pseries in usable format

working with a customer to turn up a system and purchase another hundred or so P phones and one requirement has been the contact list ...  they wanted the ability to import personal contacts lists to the system ...

i was aboe to take their export and with many manual gyrations produce the attached file which i successfully imported and which displays on the phone 

small problem is that although contact will let you import or create a number in the following format (423) 525-9190 it doesnt nothing to insure the string entered is dial-able from the phone and apparently the phone will only dial 4235259190... it seems you cant have dashes or parenthesis in the contact list for the pseries ... when you do and select dial from the contact app the phone does nothing 

i understand i can go back and normalize the import but the system should be intelligent enough to either tell you this wont work or normalize it to a format the phones can use
