Remote iCal fetch fails when events have zero-duration (same start and end time)

I have a remote iCal that is used to schedule paging notifications (school bells, etc.). In this context, it makes sense to have calendar events with zero-duration (i.e. same start and end time). However, this edge causes the calendar module to fail to fetch the iCal.
